The summer has been busy, but I’m still finding time to play through titles in my ever growing pile-o-shame.
Some of the highlights have been Wolfenstein: The New Order, which I played on Xbox One. This single player only FPS was a blast from the past that really surprised me. The wild what if Nazis won alternate history storyline really hooked me from the first few levels. I was surprised at the some of the horror elements that were added to the game. There are some cringe worthy moments during the games opening scenes that are made much more impactful with the next-gen Id graphics. Overall if you want to fun time dual wielding massive weapons and you don’t care about multiplayer, Wolfenstein: The New Order is a must buy.
Another title that I’m still grinding out is Uncharted Golden Abyss on the Playstation Vita. Currently I’m on Chapter 24 of the main storyline and I’m finding the game extremely repetitive. I just can’t get my old man hands to control the shooting properly on the Vita and there are many scenarios where you have to get kills while repelling down the ruins to progress in the level. I’ve been killed over and over trying to get shots off with the Vita controls and it gets less fun each attempt. I can say that it is impressive that I can even have a game of the this size and detail on a portable system. The voice acting and the cut scenes are great and the story is pretty good. I can’t complain too much this was one of the PS Network instant game collection titles so free is the right price. I’m determined to get through this one so I can move on to some other Vita games.
Now that I have Wolfenstein finished I can dive back into a few other big games I abandoned. Dead Rising, Call of Duty Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag and Watchdogs are on deck and I’m sure my oldest will rope me in for some more Skylanders Swapforce.
I miss titles from time to time, so speak up in the comments and let me know whatcha been playing also.
Three new TV spots have popped up for Disney XD’s animated series Star Wars Rebels. Dante and I are excited for the new series and as a parent I’m much happier that they will focus on Rebel heroes and not the glory days of a Sith Lord. I was always uneasy about cheering for Anakin in The Clone Wars.
There have been rumors that some characters and ideas for Episode VII might make there way into the show. As if we need any other incentive to watch with new series. Star Wars Rebels premieres on Disney XD on October 13th.
There will be some other ways to get an early look at the one-hour movie “Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion”:
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29
· “Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion” one-hour movie will be available to verified users on WATCHDisneyXD.com and the WATCH Disney XD app for smartphones and tablets. It will also be available on Disney Channel SVOD.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3
· Premiere telecast of the one-hour movie “Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion” (9:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel.
Fantasy Flight Games had one hell of a Gen Con this year. The number of announcements was incredible and as a die hard Star Wars fan, I’m in love with the new additions. I’ve already talked about the new Imperial Assault title which will be Descent in the Star War Universe. Even more exciting is the addition of a third faction in the X-Wing Miniatures game. Scum and Villiany will add in new ships and a few repainted versions of the Y-Wing and Z-95 Headhunters.
From the website: The ranks of the Scum and Villainy faction are filled with many of the Star Wars galaxy’s most notorious bounty hunters, pirates, and Black Sun agents. You’ll find such infamous figures as Boba Fett, IG-88, Greedo, and Prince Xizor. These Scum live outside the law, do their best to remain at the periphery of the ongoing Galactic Civil War, and allow no one – no one – to threaten their profits.
Four separate expansion packs introduce the galaxy’s Scum to X-Wing:
- Most Wanted Expansion Pack
- StarViper Expansion Pack
- M3-A Interceptor Expansion Pack
- IG-2000 Expansion Pack
As always the ships and the paint jobs look great and I’m sure there will be some great custom paint jobs out there.
