Tuesday my new Destiny Edition PS4 will arrive completing my next-gen console collection. I had a chance to play the Beta on Xbox One and I really enjoyed the game, However, all of the timed exclusive announcements for the Playstation version had thinking. Finally, what really put me over the edge was the PS4 Destiny Bundle a nice white console that goes perfectly with my white PSVita. I’m a sucker for aesthetics, and this new version of the Playstation is a stunner.
9/9/14 is just about here and I can’t wait to get my hands on the full version. I think that Bungie has something special waiting for us and as usual they have an amazing live action trailer to get everyone amped for the release.
Hearthstone has been great casual pick up and play game and the addition of the of the PVE adventure mode has made the game even better. The Curse of Naxxramas is the first of what I hope will be many single-player options that match the player against powerful bosses with really unique powers. As you delve into each quarter of the Necropolis and defeat the champions of the lich Kel’Thuzad you unlock new cards for your collection. The adventure is perfect and I can’t wait for future adventures in Black Temple, Karazhan, Ice Crown Citadel.
Fantasy Flight Games announced another product in their ever growing Star Wars lineup that I’m super excited for. Star Wars Armada will expand the miniature line from the dogfight battles of X-wing to a fleet level scale. The ships look great and the box set looks to be packed with capital ships and tons of Tie Fighter and X-Wing Squadrons. It looks like a lot of the same concepts and mechanics from X-Wing will be part of this rule set so it should make the game easy to pick up and play if you’ve already experienced X-Wing. I like the shield dials and the turn tracking integrated into each of the ship and squad bases. They previewed a couple of additional ships and I’m looking forward to seeing even more expansions.
I have this weird dream of a campaign that would stretch across all of these new games. To jump from an X-wing to an Imperial Assault game to an Armada game would be really cool.
The summer has been busy, but I’m still finding time to play through titles in my ever growing pile-o-shame.
Some of the highlights have been Wolfenstein: The New Order, which I played on Xbox One. This single player only FPS was a blast from the past that really surprised me. The wild what if Nazis won alternate history storyline really hooked me from the first few levels. I was surprised at the some of the horror elements that were added to the game. There are some cringe worthy moments during the games opening scenes that are made much more impactful with the next-gen Id graphics. Overall if you want to fun time dual wielding massive weapons and you don’t care about multiplayer, Wolfenstein: The New Order is a must buy.
Another title that I’m still grinding out is Uncharted Golden Abyss on the Playstation Vita. Currently I’m on Chapter 24 of the main storyline and I’m finding the game extremely repetitive. I just can’t get my old man hands to control the shooting properly on the Vita and there are many scenarios where you have to get kills while repelling down the ruins to progress in the level. I’ve been killed over and over trying to get shots off with the Vita controls and it gets less fun each attempt. I can say that it is impressive that I can even have a game of the this size and detail on a portable system. The voice acting and the cut scenes are great and the story is pretty good. I can’t complain too much this was one of the PS Network instant game collection titles so free is the right price. I’m determined to get through this one so I can move on to some other Vita games.
Now that I have Wolfenstein finished I can dive back into a few other big games I abandoned. Dead Rising, Call of Duty Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag and Watchdogs are on deck and I’m sure my oldest will rope me in for some more Skylanders Swapforce.
I miss titles from time to time, so speak up in the comments and let me know whatcha been playing also.
Three new TV spots have popped up for Disney XD’s animated series Star Wars Rebels. Dante and I are excited for the new series and as a parent I’m much happier that they will focus on Rebel heroes and not the glory days of a Sith Lord. I was always uneasy about cheering for Anakin in The Clone Wars.
There have been rumors that some characters and ideas for Episode VII might make there way into the show. As if we need any other incentive to watch with new series. Star Wars Rebels premieres on Disney XD on October 13th.
